On a wonderful late September day, Full Tilt held our second annual Employee and Family Barbeque at the beautiful Bowers Mansion Regional Park in Washoe Valley, Nevada. Originally started as a driver appreciation event, it now includes employees from all three divisions. The expansive lawn area, tall shade trees, and children’s playground made this a perfect venue to show Full Tilt’s appreciation for the dedication and effort put forth by company employees throughout the year.

The event was carefully organized by Stephanie M., Full Tilt Transportation Operations Manager. Stephanie planned the event in detail and did a tremendous job with all the logistics involved for a successful outcome, including a corn hole tournament and children’s games. The Barbeque was attended by more than 120 employees and family members. Our amazing crew barbecued burgers and hot dogs with all the complimentary side dishes. All three companies were represented: Full Tilt Transportation, Full Tilt Logistics, and Full Tilt Warehousing and Distribution.

A highlight of the event was the raffle, which was limited to employees only. Full Tilt went all out with the raffle prizes. Lucky employees went home with an electric bike, flat screen TV, Peppermill Spa certificate, folding camp wagon, Nintendo Switch, a mystery cash prize, and several nanos to name a few.

Full Tilt employees are the backbone of the company, and we can’t thank them enough. We have great drivers, account managers, brokers, warehouse staff, and administrative employees who have contributed greatly to the growth and success of Full Tilt. Our employee turnover is minimal, and employees tell us they love the company culture driven by a tight-knit family of owners. We are always looking for that special person to add to the Full Tilt family, so please contact us to see how we can help you achieve your career goals.

We’re incredibly proud of the phenomenal women who play an integral part in making Full Tilt Logistics an industry leader in warehousing and transportation logistics. As of early 2021, the logistics and supply chain industry has 22 percent women. There are slightly fewer women in warehouse and distribution roles, at 19 percent. We’re proud to be a women-owned business and have women working at every level of our company, from our CEO to our drivers.

Let’s take a look at some of the awesome women at Full Tilt and what their favorite things to do in their spare time are. We love to hear about work-life balance, and we’re constantly impressed by what the women of our company get done!

Meet the Women at Full Tilt Logistics:

Jessica N. “I enjoy spending time with my husband, who is also my best friend and coworker. My three children are the center of my world: Porter, Paige, and Penny. In my downtime, you can find me doing physical activity or curled up on the couch with my family watching a Marvel or Harry Potter movie.”

Tiffany N. “I love spending time with my husband, Nic, and my two children, Avrie and Luke. We spend our time skiing, participating in archery, wrestling, and hiking. I enjoy a decent spa day once in a while, and I love a good nap. “

Taylor: “I love spending time with my loved ones, whether that’s friends or family. After years of development, I find that being with those who are most supportive in your life can be incredibly grounding. We spend a lot of time eating together, fighting like a family, and lifting each other up. In this photo from left to right, Tatiana, my brother’s girlfriend, my brother Hunter, and my mother Lisa are at an axe-throwing bar in Reno, celebrating a birthday. When I’m not with them, I spend time with my boyfriend JT, and our cat Ermac.”

Stephanie M.: “Something interesting about myself, and something I love, is that I am currently 36, turning 37. I have been married almost half my life and married my first and only love.”

Taylor B.: I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease when I was fourteen years old. I enjoy cooking, any outdoor activities, mostly hiking, photography, and spoiling my cat.

Cris Novich, Managing Director of Full Tilt Transportation, recently participated in a three-person expert panel focused on the supply chain challenges impacting the global, national, and local economies. The event was hosted by Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) and brought together industry leaders to discuss the ongoing disruptions affecting logistics, transportation, and distribution.

Understanding Today’s Supply Chain Disruptions

The global supply chain has faced unprecedented strain in recent years. Panelists discussed how a combination of factors — including labor shortages, increased fuel costs, severe winter weather, and the lasting impacts of COVID — have created widespread delays and uncertainty across nearly every industry.

These disruptions have collectively become known as “The Everything Shortage,” a term used to describe ongoing product scarcity, rising costs, and unpredictable lead times. Businesses across the country have been forced to rethink how they source, transport, and deliver goods.

From Offshoring to Onshoring: A Shift in Strategy

One key theme of the discussion was the growing shift from offshoring to onshoring and nearshoring. As global supply chains become more complex and vulnerable, companies are increasingly turning to domestic and regional partners to improve reliability, visibility, and speed.

This shift has also driven innovation, with businesses exploring alternative sourcing strategies, flexible transportation models, and more resilient logistics networks to better withstand future disruptions.

What’s Next for Transportation & Logistics?

Panelists shared insights into both the short-term and long-term outlook for the shipping and delivery market. Topics included capacity fluctuations, evolving customer expectations, technology adoption, and the increasing importance of adaptable transportation partners.

Audience participation played a major role in the conversation, with thoughtful questions highlighting the real-world challenges businesses continue to face — and the need for proactive, solution-driven logistics providers.

Probably no surprise to most readers that prices for goods and services are increasing. It seems weekly prices go up. The tight labor market, with many workers opting to stay home instead of going back to work, has employers scrambling to fill positions. To compete for employees, higher pay and incentives are often needed, leading to increased labor costs for many companies. Trucking companies fiercely compete for the best drivers. Often, these added costs are passed on to consumers.

Another factor leading to higher costs is the reduced capacity in the trucking industry. Many trucking companies went out of business in 2020, and capacity is limited. Shippers are having a tougher time finding qualified carriers, leading to higher rates to move their products.

These factors are a cause, but the increase in fuel prices is having the most damaging effect on consumers. The chart below shows data compiled by the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) for average diesel fuel prices nationwide. It is hard to believe, but since November 2020, diesel fuel prices have increased 41%.  This has a damaging effect on transportation companies locked into contracts with large customers where the fuel adjustment does not cover rapidly escalating fuel prices. For trucking companies to survive, these costs must be passed along, creating a more devastating effect on the economy and hard-working Americans.

Weekly U.S. No 2 Diesel Ultra Low Sulfur (0-15 ppm) Retail Prices (Dollars per Gallon)

Where are these increasing fuel prices taking the U.S. economy? Time will tell. It is a scenario that is trending in the wrong direction. Remember, we are all in this together, and everyone is feeling the pain.

At Full Tilt Transportation and Full Tilt Logistics, we are continuing to fight the battle in challenging times. Our customer service is the best in the industry, with well-trained, competent employees with excellent interpersonal skills. Our prices are competitive, and our reliability is something other freight companies strive for. For the best bang for the shrinking buck, contact Full Tilt today for all your transportation needs.

As leaders in our industry, Full Tilt is dedicated to providing clients with exceptional logistics and transportation solutions that are innovative, cost-effective, and efficient, not only for us but for our clients as well. To accommodate the growing amount of transportation, logistics, and distribution needs of our ever-expanding industry, we’ve mastered the art of problem-solving to deliver reliable services at every step. This year, Nevada’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Technology (NCET) has presented Full Tilt Logistics with the Logistics Company of the Year award for the hard work and commitment they’ve shown throughout their work.

Full Tilt Transportation has exploded, too, with rapid growth since its founding in 2017. With such expansion in both the logistics and transportation branches, there also come many challenges. The business plan is essential.

For Full Tilt, completing a business plan was step one. Of course, nothing ever goes according to plan; however, the business plan forced us to put in writing an actionable plan with realistic goals, estimated costs, and a concrete timeline. Our business plan is a living, breathing document that requires frequent performance measurement and evaluation. This then translates into an operating plan.

Good Nevada trucking companies adapt continually to environmental factors.

A good operating plan must be adaptable to changing market conditions. Many of these conditions, like fuel costs, are out of our control, but they still require us to respond. Other costs, such as insurance, driver pay, benefits, and overhead, are easier to estimate and plan for the long term. Regulations, safety, training, and other topics are also factored in to estimate the average price per mile. That helps determine if we break even, lose money, or make a profit. We regularly review the plan to identify areas where costs can be trimmed or revenue can be increased. Our staff is aware of general market conditions, making them quick to react to change.

Well-maintained trucking equipment means increased on-time delivery performance.

Trucking companies in Reno, NV, need to understand that maintenance requirements are critical. For this reason, we operate within our fleet a combination of leased and purchased equipment. Leased equipment can lower costs in the short-term, while purchased equipment and a solid preventative maintenance program can lower long-term costs. Working and well-maintained leased and purchased equipment ultimately increases on-time delivery performance for our customers.

Shipping lanes and timing are critical to finding the most profitable options.

All of the aforementioned costs are overlaid with various trucking lanes to determine the best, most profitable options for our customers and ourselves. Identifying niche markets helps provide the highest return for the company. Understanding cash flow requirements, payment terms, and aggressively managing and mitigating our receivables. We aggressively focus on a market segment, become proficient in that segment, and then attack another market opportunity.

Freight doesn't move on trucks; it moves on relationships.

Picking the right business partners is vital to our success. As a small local family-owned business, our philosophy is to support similarly situated businesses in our area. Whether it be banks, equipment and service providers, technical support, or anything else, we look to local providers first. This has allowed us to develop strong business relationships within the local community. We contribute financially and with in-kind service hours to several local non-profit organizations.

Good employees define an organization's culture.

Even with proper planning and foresight, the rapid growth of trucking companies in Reno, NV, would not be sustainable without the most proficient employees in the industry. Our employees are the lifeblood of the company, and we treat them with great respect. We place high expectations on our employees, but giving them respect means that they deliver. Attracting the best people to any company is challenging, especially in such a tight labor market; however, retaining exemplary employees is a high priority for us at Full Tilt.

We focus our company's culture on family, and we encourage our employees to realize that family comes first and working at Full Tilt is just a job. Our employee turnover is low, and we realize a happy employee makes for a happy customer. We thoroughly train employees, pay well, provide an attractive benefits package, and a safe, positive workplace environment.

For Full Tilt, the bottom line is clear:

  1. Be disciplined, create a winning strategy, and stick to it.
  2. Communicate with employees, customers, and service providers.
  3. Pay attention to the details and have fun.

Northern Nevada Trucking Company

Full Tilt Logistics is the only trucking company named as an EDAWN Corporate Citizen Award winner.

The EDAWN Existing Industry Awards recognize Primary Companies in the Northern Nevada region for their outstanding contribution to our community in a variety of ways. The Existing Industry Awards are a great opportunity to recognize existing Primary Companies for their contributions, and Full Tilt was recently named as a recipient of the Corporate Citizen Award.

Northern Nevada Trucking Company

What's EDAWN, and why does this matter for trucking companies in Reno, like Full Tilt?

Northern Nevada Trucking Company

The Economic Development Authority of Western Nevada, or EDAWN, offers assistance to prospective, new, and existing companies in Northern Nevada. Over the last three years, they've helped over 300 companies to relocate or expand in the Greater Reno-Sparks region. Specifically, they assist in site selection, in-depth research, statistics, and regional business data, industrial and office real estate searches, specialized reports, connectivity, and representation.

Full Tilt Logistics is a family-owned and certified Women-Owned Business. Although small, we are unlike other trucking companies in Reno. Since 2014, our logistics company has had a significant impact, not only on redefining the freight and dedicated transportation business in the Reno area but also in the contributions of money and employee volunteer hours to the local community. Recognition for these efforts by a large entity like EDAWN confirms that we are on the right path, not only as a business but as a community partner.

Full Tilt's local community partnerships are numerous.

Northern Nevada Trucking Company

Full Tilt's culture encourages team members to focus on family and giving back to the community. This is something other trucking companies don't always focus on, but we believe that it is the secret to our success. Of our various community partnerships, Urban Roots is one of our most active. Urban Roots is a local non-profit that dedicates itself to growing healthy minds, bodies, and communities through education and service.

We sponsor an Urban Roots school garden and buy T-shirts for their summer camp. From planting and harvesting to preparing what we grow, Urban Roots follows food from seed-to-table, empowering students of all ages to answer the question, “Where does our food come from?” We also have team members heavily involved in the Truckee Meadows Boys and Girls Club by being on the Young Leaders Committee, serving as mentors for at-risk youth, and donating money to the organization monthly.

In addition, a Full Tilt team member is a founding member of the Mater Academy of Northern Nevada, a Charter School for at-risk youth.  We contribute to the MS Society, the American Heart Association, and Moms on the Run.  We volunteer at Thanksgiving to feed families at the Boys and Girls Club and provide a significant donation to the Jammies Drive, which provides pajamas for babies in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.  We have also donated thousands of dollars ' worth of office equipment to a local church.  This past year, we organized a “diaper drive” for the Hurricane Harvey victims in Houston. We have already seen how hurricanes and other factors are affecting dedicated transportation, so it's significant that we were able to fill a 53-foot trailer and provide the transportation free of charge to those Texas children in need.

Full Tilt Logistics is in the News! Again!

The recent buzz comes from Northern Nevada Business Weekly in an article that centers around innovation in Reno trucking companies, "On the Road: Future of Trucking is Headed this Way."

An Innovator Amongst Reno Trucking Companies

In his article, Roger Diez identifies Full Tilt as an innovator amongst various other Reno trucking companies and cites their use of modern advancements in trucking, Geotab from Telematics. Geotab is a freight management system that affords real-time logistics information. UPS and the Department of Defense both use the same software, as the system provides electronic logging of driver hours for full accountability of transportation requirements.

Advancements in computer technology have not only added efficiencies in terms of tracking and logistics. Full Tilt's Volvo power units achieve much greater fuel efficiency. Over the past 10 years, Volvo has achieved drastic gains in fuel economy from an average of 5 to 6 miles per gallon to an average of 7.5 miles per gallon in its fleet.

This increase in efficiency is due to smaller displacement engines that use turbochargers and smart aerodynamics. Other details, such as high-efficiency piston design, split injection fuel delivery systems, predictive shifting, and adaptive cruise control, also contribute to better mileage.

The next step is the development of hybrid power units despite limited demand. Regardless, Full Tilt recognizes the importance of increased efficiency and looks to the future for continued innovation.

Growth and Expansion

Diez also notes Full Tilt's rise since their inception three years ago, as well as our continuing growth and development. Currently, our staff at Full Tilt handles between 400 and 500 shipments per month. This increase in traffic has also necessitated the recent acquisition this June of three additional tractors and a total of six trailers. Our plan is to increase the fleet to between ten and fifteen units by the end of the year.

Full Tilt specializes in high-value freight, and many of our clients are trade shows and companies in the solar industry. Most recently, we signed a contract with Amazon. Full Tilt looks to continue its commitment to fully utilizing the technological capabilities built into today's modern trucks to position itself as a key player amongst Reno logistics and Reno trucking companies.
