Full Tilt is a family-owned Reno logistics, transportation, and warehousing company. The owners are passionate about supporting the fight against sex trafficking. Full Tilt supports Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) by training our drivers to identify signs of trafficking while they are out on the road. All Full Tilt trucks provide a safe place for victims when they see our trucks with TAT stickers in the window. Full Tilt owners also support the cause locally by getting involved in several annual events dedicated to stopping sex trafficking. With our help and the help of our community, these organizations can do more to put an end to human sex trafficking.
This year two of Full Tilt’s owners, Jessica Novich and Tiffany Novich, teamed up with DeeDee the owner of Sports West Athletic Club (SWAC), and the owner of Spa West to put together a wonderful package to be auctioned off at the Mamas Fur A Cause event. DeeDee is a huge supporter of this cause and continues to support our local community as much as possible. Jessica and Tiffany attend Mamas Fur a Cause each year, a charity event that is raising money for the non-profit organization Awaken, a non-profit organization dedicated to ending sex trafficking.
Full Tilt has also teamed up with Stacey, the owner of Element Tanning who gave a generous donation of a gift package in support of the cause. Stacey is always a staple for her community as well—she and her daughters are really amazing.
Full Tilt employees also volunteer for The Freedom Drivers Project (FDP) a mobile exhibit serving as a tool to educate community members about domestic sex trafficking and how the trucking industry can help combat it.

Full Tilt has also volunteered for The Freedom Drivers Project (FDP). FDP is a mobile exhibit serving as a tool to educate members of the trucking industry, law enforcement, and the general public about domestic sex trafficking and how the trucking industry is combating it. It is a 48-foot trailer with an interior filled with video monitors and actual trafficking artifacts from women and children who have been enslaved by traffickers. This has become a powerful educational tool that Full Tilt Logistics is happy to support.
Mamas Fur a Cause is an annual charity fundraising event that was created by a group of moms looking to give back to the community by making it a safer place for all. Mamas Fur A Cause continues to grow each year and is truly an amazing supporter of our community—what these moms do is extraordinary. Mamas Fur A Cause presents an opportunity for women, moms, grandmothers, and other women to gather together to enjoy the comradery of the company and fundraise at the same time.

Whew! What a week…..Rodeo Week. It goes without saying that Full Tilt Logistics and Transportation work hard for our customers, with employees working as many hours as it takes to get it right every time. We had two teams in the steer decorating contest this year, one female and one male and neither team brought home the gold.

The Rodeo Association helps our community in so many ways. They aid children with extraordinary needs, build community partnerships and fund grants and educational scholarships. Two of their programs are especially important to Full Tilt. The Denim Drive which has provided clothing to over 40,000 local abused, neglected and abandoned children and the Reading Room Books for Children which provides reading materials and volunteer readers which serves as a refuge for children who wind up in court situations, not by their own doing.

At Full Tilt Logistics, we've grown rapidly and worked diligently to position ourselves alongside other Nevada trucking companies since our creation in 2014. We generally associate logistics companies with words like "efficient" and "fast" - its something trucking companies in Reno NV strive for. However; these terms can be misleading as shippers and receivers can negatively impact efficiency. There are numerous circumstances beyond the control of the trucking company. Overall, the industry needs to become more aware of the impact shippers and receivers have on the logistics industry and a trucking company’s operations.
Shipper and receiver delays and detentions cause problems, especially at the docks. These hold-ups also affect operations and other loads. When a logistics company waits for loading and unloading at a receiver it may affect the timing of the next load pick up. If a receiver takes an excessive amount of time loading or unloading, the trucking company could potentially be late and miss their next load. This often results in unhappy and frustrated customers. Delays also affect driver morale, especially when drivers spend too much time waiting for loading or unloading. Delays and detentions also affect a Driver's work time and pay. If a customer denies detention, the logistics company may have to go out of pocket to make it right with the carrier.
Most truckers are paid by the mile. This means that every hour a truck is parked at the dock and not on the road driving means the driver isn't getting paid. Shipments that aren't ready often contribute to delays at the dock. Similarly, warehouses have union workers who take breaks and sometimes don’t care about a carrier's or a driver's time. Order placement mix-ups can also delay drivers. These are all factors beyond the driver's control, but they're significant. In many cases, the shipper or receiver pays the trucking company for the load and then the trucking company pays the driver. Bottom line: if a driver isn't driving, everyone starts losing money.
Some shippers and receivers have appointment time policies. If a driver doesn't show up by their appointment time, then the shipper or receiver will "work them in" and load or unload the truck at their own leisure. This happens most often when drivers arrive at the shipper before their set appointment time. Instead of setting fixed appointment times, some shippers and receivers set "open window" appointment times, such as between 08:00 – 15:00 - a 7-hour time frame. This affords the driver greater flexibility in planning their trip.
At Full Tilt, when a driver is on time for his or her appointment, the first two hours of waiting time are "on the driver." This means that they don’t get paid for up to a two-hour wait. We make sure that the shippers and receivers who do business with us are aware of this policy. Our policy is for drivers is to always arrive at the destination before the agreed upon appointment time. If traffic, weather, accidents or any other problem delays a driver, they proactively contact dispatch. Dispatch then immediately communicates the situation to the shipper.
Some trucking companies in Reno NV realize that traffic accidents, extremely bad weather or truck mechanical difficulties can delay a driver. These are reasons beyond their control; however, appointment policies are (in general) a good idea.
Full Tilt communicates whenever there's a delay. It is important to be aware of how one particular delay might affect the delivery or pick up of a subsequent load. Whenever a Full Tilt driver arrives at a shipper or receiver who is doing a live load or unload, they will inquire as to how long the process will take. If the company states that it will take "a while," our driver informs them that the first two hours of waiting are on him, but that he will get paid the company's rate per hour for every hour thereafter. At Full Tilt we have had drivers stuck at a shipper's location for up to six hours - this is a worst-case scenario.
For each shipment, our drivers document the following:
Keeping driver times documented they are able to easily put the times on the bills of lading. This ensures that the driver receives any and all due waiting time pay. If bills of lading delay or detain the driver and cause them to wait, their time is also eligible for wait time pay.
Due to federal hours of service regulations and the long time it may take the shipper to load his trailer, we may not able to commit to delivering the load by the original delivery time in the load assignment. Constant driver communication with our office allows our dispatcher to amend the delivery time as necessary. Our customers are always in the loop and we communicate frequently on the status of every load to avoid surprises.
Full Tilt drivers never dawdle once a shipper or receiver completes their tasks associated with a load. Once a shipper or receiver calls, our goal is to respond within two minutes. At Full Tilt, we constantly review wait time pay records to determine how long a driver's equipment is held "hostage." This also includes the amount of money spent on diesel while the truck idles.
We avoid customers who habitually break time commitments with us. Shipper delays are often costly. Full Tilt professional drivers who are delayed and detained at the shippers are paid for wait time and we try and recover these costs beyond our control.
Reno NV trucking companies are witnessing the biggest change in the trucking industry in over 50 years. Back in December, 2015 the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) published the final electronic logging device rule — or ELD mandate. What this mandate means is that every commercial vehicle - especially those related to long haul trucking - require an electronic logging device. This device is more commonly referred to as an ELD. ELD's are essentially part of a government mandated program that replace paper logbooks in all commercial vehicles. This regulation takes effect in December 2018.
This device is a piece of hardware that records commercial vehicle driving hours. It also enables our own shippers and Full Tilt drivers to monitor shipment status. This government mandate aims to “improve roadway safety by using technology to strengthen commercial driver’s compliance with hours-of-service regulations that prevent fatigue.” Drivers may then print their logs and provide them to DOT Enforcement Inspectors as part of their already required documentation.
Think of ELDs as automatic on-board recorders that electronically record a driver’s activity and log their Hours of Service. Back-office fleet management software often connects with ELD’s to submit real-time driving logs back to base. One of the overarching goals may be to increase driver safety on the road, but ELDs also allow for greater transparency throughout the shipping and trucking process - a valuable asset for shippers and truckers alike.
The ELD mandate is perhaps the biggest change within the trucking industry in over 50 years. It isn't surprising then that many industry insiders are less than thrilled by these advances. In this particular trucking debate, as in others, there are two sides to the story. As a personal time management tool, ELDs have the potential to eliminate time consuming manual paperwork and undoubtedly save drivers time; however, there are skeptics.
These skeptics suggest an overall loss in trucking industry productivity due to new hours-of-service rules - a legitimate and potentially significant concern. Shipping rates add concern as well. Combining these issues potentially drives up freight spend in the spot market.
At this time, there is no way to accurately gauge how many fleets or local Reno NV trucking companies are running with paper logs and knowingly violating hours-of-service regulations. It is also unclear how many of these potential violators will be unable to continue operating in a post-ELD environment - without a doubt, there are many.
Regardless, more drivers will be needed to make up driver hours if hours are reduced. We know now that driver shortages are due to outside factors like natural disaster and seasonal rises in shipping traffic. There is also potential for this new ELD regulation to add to driver shortages.
We cannot know for certain; however, by many estimates ELD will reduce driver and fleet hours, creating additional demand nationally and locally amongst other Reno trucking companies. This all translates to higher pricing. In the end, we foresee an added pressure on trucking companies to make up their losses in productivity and hours with additional drivers. This ultimately creates more competition for drivers and potentially leads to higher driver wages.
Assuming “reasonable enforcement” of the law, we won't see the true impact of the regulation until late in 2018. Regardless, at Full Tilt we are already ahead of the curve and compliant with all ELD standards. The result: little to no impact on our customers. Approximately 40% of U.S. trucking fleets already use ELD’s and Full Tilt is no different.

Freight logistics costs are on the rise across the nation. Here are several factors contributing to this recent surge.
The recent surge in hurricane activity in Houston, Florida, and Puerto Rico is damaging to supply chain infrastructure. Some areas received over 60 inches of rain, while destructive winds lead to massive flooding, loss of life and destruction. The flooding inundated hundreds of thousands of homes displaced more than 100,000 people and prompted thousands of rescues.
Oil refineries were also negatively affected. This is leading to a shortage of fuel and increased shipping and transportation prices across the United States. The hurricane season isn't over yet. This has lead industry insiders and experts to speculate on overall effects and market fluctuations.
Following the devastation left by Gulf Coast hurricanes, FEMA stepped in and began offering aid and assistance to all affected areas. FEMA's need for equipment, goods and drop off locations resulted in logistical congestion. Full Tilt was amongst many logistics companies called on to truck goods and equipment into the affected areas. This caused FEMA to actually begin utilizing our own trailers.
Some are still waiting for assistance from FEMA and the federal government is still in possession of our trailers. We are working hard to recover our equipment. FEMA's use of our equipment is undoubtedly for a good cause; however, this does impact our business and the business of other dedicated transportation companies.
Carriers became aware of the need for additional trucks and equipment. As a result, some raised their rates by up to 30%. The high demands that the disaster areas placed on freight logistics companies resulted in a shortage of trucks and an overall increase in pricing across the country.
At Full Tilt, we kept our pricing at affordable levels. We choose not to take advantage of shipping rate hikes as a result of the devastation caused by the storms.
